ACT
What is ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach to therapy that helps people develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. Instead of trying to eliminate anxiety, stress, sadness, or self-doubt, ACT focuses on helping you respond to these experiences in a more flexible and compassionate way.
ACT combines mindfulness, self-awareness, and practical strategies to help you stay grounded in the present moment while making choices that align with your values and the life you want to create. The goal is not to “feel good all the time,” but to help you live more fully and meaningfully — even during challenging seasons of life.
Many people find themselves stuck in cycles of overthinking, avoidance, self-criticism, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm. ACT can help you learn how to step out of these patterns so they have less control over your life.
Through ACT, you can learn to:
-
Manage anxiety, stress, and overwhelming emotions more effectively
-
Reduce the impact of negative or self-critical thoughts
-
Feel more present and connected in your daily life
-
Develop healthier coping skills and emotional resilience
-
Clarify what truly matters to you and move toward those goals
-
Build greater self-compassion and flexibility during difficult moments
ACT can be especially helpful for people struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, burnout, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, or feeling “stuck” in unhelpful patterns.
Rather than focusing on avoiding discomfort, ACT helps you build the ability to handle difficult experiences while continuing to move toward a meaningful and fulfilling life.
