Individual
Therapy

Individual therapy is one of the most effective ways to address most problems related to significant stress, sadness, loneliness, and feeling lost. At The Calming Mind, the bulk of the work that we do is addressing issues related to anxiety, depression, substance use, and issues related to trauma in individual therapy sessions. These sessions are meant to be a way for you to better understand your concerns, gain more insight, build your skills, and practice them. Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes in length and they are geared towards addressing what is most concerning to you. Sometimes 50 minutes are not long enough and we may decide that 75 minute therapy sessions may be more effective, that way we have enough time to get deeper into the issues.

The interventions that we use in individual therapy vary for each person and completely depend on what is going on for them. The Calming Mind believes that to be an effective therapist, one must have a large toolbox with them; meaning each problem cannot be addressed in the same way as the other. Through years of training and practice, The Calming Mind has developed an extensive collection of tools that effectively address issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and substance use.

The clinical team at The Calming Mind is extensively trained in and provide evidence-based therapy interventions that include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy -ACT, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - CBT, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - TF-CBT, and Motivational Interviewing - MI.
